A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Students learn to produce high quality fillet and groove welds in all positions on various thickness metals up to 1” thick. Includes instruction in SMAW (“stick” welding) and GMAW (‘mig’ welding), reading shop drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating,safety, and applicable codes and standards.
Must complete TABE test with a Math Score of 627 or higher, Language score of 608 or higher, and Reading score of 597 or higher. Must have a High school Diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in HSE diploma courses (basic math is a component of some course material.) Must be 18 years of age or older.Must be able to lift 20lbs and stand for 5-7 hours per day unassisted. Must be able to read, write and understand English. Must have manual dexterity (without cramping, pain, or instability).Must have 20/20 vision or corrected vision in both eyes. If corrective eye-wear have been recommended for reading or driving they will be necessary for welding.
Start dates are scheduled nearly every 6 weeks and are reserved on a first come first serve basis. Space is limited and dates book a few weeks in advance.
