Training is provided by licensed nurses.
The CNA program is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level positions within a variety of healthcare setting including long term care facilities, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals and home setting. Coursework will include instruction and hands-on experiences in the classroom/lab and clinical settings. The program emphasizes application of the theory acquired in the classroom and clinical skill development. Skills included but are not limited to providing personal care, assisting with activities of daily living, obtaining vital signs and anthropometric measurements, using proper body mechanics, safety measures, resident’s right, and infection control. The program will also emphasize the importance of soft skill development including professionalism and personal accountability, critical thinking, customer service, multi-cultural competence, interpersonal communication/observation skills and team dynamics. The program utilizes a concept and competency-based curriculum that employs a variety of learning strategies including lecture, PowerPoint, videos, discussion, independent study, practice tests, demonstration, hand-on skills practice, case-studies, role-play and simulation to introduce, develop and master program content. Upon completion of the classroom portion of the program, students will complete an immersive hands-on practicum experience in a long-term care setting. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the state written and skills evaluation.
Admission CriteriaApplicants must meet the following criteria for admission:? Be at least 17 years of age prior to start the program.? Hold a high school diploma / high school equivalency (GED) unless currently enrolled in high school or GED program? Successfully pass a Criminal Background Check and License Verification (if applicable)? Be able to perform basic reading and basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as demonstrated by successfully passing the Pre-Admission Basic Skills Assessment.? Be able to speak and understand the English language in both written and verbal format? Be in good physical, mental and emotional health.
